I was at a great event called Marketing Live in Leeds last week,
organised by the Whyman Group.
Helen Urwin of Xanobia (global branding expert) was talking
about how consumer consciousness is shifting. And how people want
to feel connected at a deeper level with the companies they buy
from. A common theme of the event was that they also want to feel
more connected with each other. You only need to look at the growth
of social networks such as Twitter to see this.
When I and Helen worked together in the Mars Group many years
ago our motivation for joining was partly shiny new company cars
and a pay rise. Today many graduates want to join companies that
can help make them a better person.
Many consumers today and young people joining businesses want to
feel a connection at a deeper emotional level? Is your business
satisying this need in the marketplace? Do you understand what this
means and how to do it? Because if you don't there are companies
coming along who do. Heard of Google 10 years ago?
